The Bomb Drops

“Hey, what are you doing?” Travis asked, nervousness in his voice.

“I got the wedding photos! I’m just looking through them now.”

“Nice, nice… Listen, can we meet up for a coffee, Manon?”

“Um… sure. Why don’t you come over and look at the wedding photos?”

“I’d prefer it if you’d come out with me and Cathy,” he said solemnly. Cathy is his girlfriend.

Okay, that’s weird… Maybe they’re surprising me with something…

So, they took me to a coffee shop and sat down across from me. Travis and Cathy reached over and grabbed my arm, looking at me with concern and sadness. The whole situation felt heavy. I instinctively knew something horrible was coming my way.

Travis took a deep breath, then let it out slowly. “What I’m about to tell you isn’t going to be easy to hear… ” he said.

My heart dropped. My whole body started tingling, then shaking. The feeling that rushed over me was unlike anything I’ve ever felt. Automatically, fear dropped in and consumed me. Are they going to tell me that Raymond died… ? What’s going on!? Like, it was just so dramatic. It was sooo dramatic.

“Tell me!” I said, panicked. “What’s—what’s going on?” I stuttered.

Travis looked at me with a broken heart; I could see the pain he felt coming from his heart through his eyes. “So… this girl messaged me saying, ‘I’m sending you this message because Manon’s really going to need a friend right now. Her husband has been sending me inappropriate messages for a few weeks now and I have screenshots to prove it.’”

Travis slowly turned his phone to where I could see it. The messages that I saw were… highly sexual in nature. First texts, then photos, then videos. WTF was happening? I couldn’t breathe at this point. I was so confused. Then I saw more: he was naked, and then he was saying things about ME—talking smack about me! He said things along the lines of, “Manon’s boring. She’s not sexy. I’m about to blow up on the RED CARPET and I want YOU by my side!”

What in the actual fuck…

He was saying this to a stranger. It was so fucked up… so fucked up! I literally felt like my whole world had just flipped upside down—exploded from an asteroid strike… I—I—I… I couldn’t believe it. There was no way! But I had to believe it because I saw the screenshots and videos. Not only did he write mean things about me, he told her he loved her and that they had been together in past lives. A lot of the things he said to me, he’d said to her, a complete stranger. The words that I had held so dear, which I’d thought were just for me, were now being given to her—not to mention a few other women, as I’d find out later.

This news was so excruciating and confusing, because to my face, he treated me like a queen. I’d chosen him and kept falling more in love with him
