Chapter 18

With the conversation from the detective running through his mind, he was worried and a little disappointed in himself. There were so many more questions that he wanted to ask but he hadn’t been able to remember them. Walking to the train station, Michael noticed a tall white man walking behind him. You never know who’s watching. Greyson’s last words ran through his mind as he picked up his speed a little and so did the man behind him. Michael decided against running because he didn’t want the man to know that Michael noticed him. So, he focused on making sure he didn’t get lost traveling in a strange city. Michael made different turns until turned into an alley. Nobody followed him and he felt like he had lost his tail, but he couldn’t know for sure.

Maybe I should’ve listened to Annie.

Heading down the alley, Michael realized he was heading towards a parking lot, filled with cars. Looking at his surroundings, Michael felt like he had come here before.

Shh, Baby. He heard the woman from his recurring dream whisper in his mind as he kept walking. Walking further into the alley, he started to recognize where he was. His dream started playing in his mind and he saw the man slitting the young woman’s throat as he studied the parking lot. It was different now than in his dream but there was not a doubt in Michaels mind that this was where that dream had taken place.

He had been having that dream for years on end and he had never even considered the possibility that it could be a memory. With all that he’s learned over the past week though, it wouldn’t be too hard to believe that he had been remembering someone’s murder. Marianna wrote that she had seen something that she wasn’t supposed to and this was it. His mother had been brutally killed because she had witnessed a murder.

As the dream played in his mind over and over again, Michael caught details that he hadn’t before. The way that little him clutched onto his mothers shirt. How even though he was terrified, his eyes never wavered off the man. How the light seemed to shine directly on the man and not the woman. How when the man slit the woman throat, Michael could see scars on his hand.

He had seen that scar before and recently, but he couldn’t place it. It had to have been someone he had run into in while in Hoston or Binghamton. Shaking his head, Michael looked around and didn’t see the man that was following him. He would have plenty of time to go over his last few encounters on his way back to Binghamton. He turned around and headed towards the train station.
