I remember the first time I saw her, my 1954 Kaiser Darrin on the auction website. Man, I thought I’d died and gone to Heaven, but it wasn’t until she was right there in front of me, until I got inside and took her for a ride, that I fell in love. I had to make her mine. It cost me a fuck-load of money, but I’m a man who gets what he wants.

And, like my Kaiser Darrin, in the worst way, I want Sloan Mathis.

Pulling her closer to me in the bed, I get a sinking feeling that when she finds out about the bracelet, the deal I made with Jack, it’s gonna cost me, big-time. I care about her, but I can’t sacrifice the bracelet. Arrogant, yeah, I’m that. Confident, sure I got a bit of that too. Egotistical, now that’s one of my flaws, but I’m damn sure not selfish, at least not when it comes to something I don’t technically own. The bracelet doesn’t belong to me. Hell, it doesn’t even belong to Sloan, and I swore nothing would stop me from returning it to its rightful owner. Finding things is what I do, but returning them is part of the deal too.

Sloan wraps her arms around me and lets out a cute little sigh of content. And I’m responsible for it. I sated her and her beautiful body, the poor girl. At the very least, I plan to do it once more tonight. I know that won’t be my fill, but for the past few days of thinking she belonged to another guy and feeling the way I did, I’m nowhere near sated yet.

I run my hand over her hair, down to the small of her back, and she feels like silk. I kiss the top of her head. The weight of her on me, her skin clinging to mine, feeling the steady beat of her heart, I don’t know if I’m capable of love, but, damn, this just feels right.

Her head lifts, and those beautiful, violet eyes mesmerize me all over again. She throws that infectious smile my way. I may not be there yet, but I’m definitely falling into something here.

She props up on an elbow, her two-tone hair falling all around her face. “Want something to drink? Water? Beer?”

I push a few dark strands behind her ear. I really could use some whiskey, but I doubt she has any of that in her place, and it wasn’t on her list of offers, even though she knows it’s my poison of choice. “Water would be great.”

“Okay.” She crawls out of the bed, heads to her dresser, and pulls something out.

“Don’t,” I say, stopping her.

“What?” Holding what looks like a shirt above her head, lifting her arms, her beautiful body stretched before me, she waits.

“Don’t cover up. I like looking at you.”

“Oh.” Her arms fall, with the garment still in her hands. “You like me and all my voluptuous curves?” She shakes her hips and gives me a grin, but I get the feeling she’s a bit self-conscious about her body.
