Chapter Twelve

A few days later, Kurt said, “We can stop by the stables after we’ve locked the geese up for the night.”

Aiden couldn’t stop himself from smiling. “Really?” Apparently his campaign to convince Kurt—with some more enthusiastic blowjobs and handjobs—had paid off.

“Yeah. You talked so nicely of the horses, I’m a bit curious to see them myself. And Rowan said it was okay.”

Aiden worked even more efficiently to get the geese settled for the night, and he didn’t care that his hair was disheveled or his clothes covered in dirt when he finished. “Come on, let’s go!”

“Wow. Wish you’d show this kind of enthusiasm in bed.”

“I could if I wanted to. But I don’t!” Aiden skipped ahead, then stopped when he realized he didn’t know where they were going. “Is it in the courtyard? Or somewhere nearby?”

“Just outside the castle walls,” Kurt said. “Keep your mouth shut while we’re going through the courtyard. Most people there won’t be as kind to you as I am.”

If this was kindness, Aiden didn’t even want to know what they considered cruel. But he stayed close to Kurt, avoiding meeting anybody’s eyes. He spotted Lisette from that first day, working on tending the flowers that climbed up the castle walls.

“Hi, Lisette!” Kurt called out, waving to her. “You almost done for the day?”

Lisette dropped her watering can, apparently not caring that water spilled everywhere, and ran up to Kurt. “Good afternoon! It’s been a while since I’ve seen you. Did you already break your new toy?”

“No, no, of course not.” Kurt wrapped an arm around Aiden’s shoulders and drew him close. “Here he is, all in one piece.”

Lisette seemed surprised to see Aiden. She leaned in close, far closer than Aiden was comfortable with, her nose almost touching his. When she pulled back, she seemed confused. “Are you sure this is the same one?”

“Yeah, this is him. He cleaned up really nicely.” Kurt smiled and shook Aiden, his grip never loosening enough for Aiden to slip away.

Lisette seemed less amused. “I didn’t realize he was so handsome. Are you sure this is the one I brought you?”

“Yeah! He’s still wearing the collar, isn’t he?” Kurt pointed to the collar.

“Well, you could have taken it from the old one and put it on a new human.”

Enough was enough. “I’m him! I’m Aiden!” Aiden said with exasperation. “My face isn’t any different!”

“Mmm… No, it is.” Lisette said, nodding firmly. “It has a glow that wasn’t there before. If anybody finds out…”

“Finds out what?” Aiden looked between the two faeries. “I didn’t do anything! Tell her, Kurt. I’ve been herding geese, just like you wanted me to.”

“Yeah. He’s herding geese, and doing a halfway decent job of it.” Kurt finally let go of Aiden and crossed his hands over himself. “Why? You don’t get to take him back now. He’s mine.”

“Is he?” Lisette bounced on the back of her heels. “I don’t know. He doesn’t feel yours. I think I should… No, never mind. I’ll talk to you later.
