Busted

His father was coming down the staircase. Wilmot froze as he caught sight of him: black beard, sharp black eyes, somber brown jacket and tie. For a panicked second, Wilmot thought of ditching the guitar in the coat closet and making a dash for his bedroom. Too late. His father reached the bottom stair and stood directly in front of him.

“What’s this?” His father’s hand swooped down and plucked the instrument from Wilmot’s hands. “A guitar? An electric guitar?”

Clenched in his father’s grip, the guitar blazed forth proudly—captured, yet unconquered. Its black paint gleamed. Its red thunderbolts flared. The sight jolted Wilmot into courageous action.
