Chapter 16

The flames from the fireplace in Colter’s bedroom glowed and leaped like wild gypsy dancers. Rain thrummed on the roof. Emma’s heart beat matched the tapping rain drops when he placed her on the soft, fluffy brown blanket, which in the flickering firelight resembled an animal fur. Two large beige pillows rested invitingly against the head board.

She barely managed to swallow when he eased himself beside her. His warm breath sent tremors down her legs and shivers of excitement up her spinal column. His lips, full of fire and need, met hers. His tongue filled the chasm of her mouth, twirling and twining with hers until Emma groaned and wrapped her arms around his shoulders to pull him closer. Colter broke away and smiled down at her, his eyes bright and filled with a lusty gleam. “Emma, I want to see and feel all of you.”

Like one in an enchanted trance, Emma lifted upwards and Colter removed the unbuttoned shirt from her shoulders. She lay upon the pillows, her body glowing golden in the firelight. Emma had wondered how she would react when another man saw her naked, no one but David had ever made love to her or seen her so vulnerable. But, strangely, with Colter gazing down upon her nakedness, she felt no embarrassment at the twenty extra pounds, only a heady sense of triumph to have this man’s warm hands touching her, roaming over her body and doing incredibly wonderful things to her. He took each one of her breasts into his mouth, sucking upon the nipples, laving them with his tongue, driving her insane with desire. His lips moved erotically down her ribcage to the triangle between her thighs, and Emma thought she would die from the excruciating pleasure. Her fingers tangled within the depths of his hair, and she pushed at him and whispered, “Stop, stop.”

Colter looked up, perplexed. “Don’t you like it?”

She loved it, but she needed more. “Take off your pants. I—I can’t wait any longer, Colter, I really can’t.” And she meant it. It had been over three years since she’d been with a man and she wanted this man…all of him…very much.

Colter stood, his muscular biceps rippling, and pulled off his jeans. Emma’s eyes widened at the sheer beauty of his body. She found him to be more masculine, more perfectly formed than any statue or photo she’d ever seen, better looking than David, who was a handsome man. Her gaze traveled to the intimate part of him, the part she wished to claim her femininity and saw that Colter was more well-endowed than David. And more than ready for her from the look of him.

She expected him to join her on the bed again, but he turned to the dresser drawer and withdrew a condom pack. “Sorry for the mood killer,” he said and pulled it on.

Emma realized the pack she’d purchased was still in her purse. “Better safe than sorry,” she mumbled, pleased he was so responsible but also sorry and disappointed.
