A smile lit up his face. It was a rather ludicrous process, and a very basic Q & A, almost fit for a child, but strangely it seemed to lift his mood and straighten his mind considerably. He did it often. It was a technique he had developed over the years to sort out his immediate issues. He sometimes amazed himself at how quickly he could change his mindset or find an answer to an important question.

They arrived back from the workshop an hour late after seeing Ruth and Karen privately. They’d both responded very well, and he planned to follow up with them both the next day. Having Samantha with him made everything so much more relaxing. He wasn’t on guard like he normally was. Ryan was very aware of his effect on women and although that could be used to his advantage, in extracting details from them, it could also give rise to problems in keeping his distance from them, or their underlying expectations of him.

He couldn’t be more pleased with the day’s events.

The group session had been lively with lots of verbal interaction. For a dysfunctional group of women, the girls were so much fun. He could see Samantha was enjoying herself so much, and that pleased him. He wanted her to enjoy it and for it to become part of her life, like it was part of his. Although he knew the groups wouldn’t all be so easy, and that stress of the job would take its toll somewhere along the way, it had been a great start.

They were off to Edinburgh the next week; he’d never been to Edinburgh and was looking forward to that and planning a few things to do and see with Samantha. There was a lot of culture to explore on the tour. He liked that side of life.

He had so much to show her and to share, and was feeling so very positive about the future.
