“So how was your first day?” I asked Lee. I’d told her I was going to call after she got out of her last class, and I was anxious to see how her day went.

“It was okay. I like my classes and two out of my three professors, so that’s a win.”

“Good. I was thinking about you all day. I wondered if I should’ve bought you two coffees instead of one earlier.”

She snickered. “I could’ve used another one by class three.”

“I’m sure. When’s your next class?”

“I have a class at four tomorrow, but it has a late lab on Wednesday’s.”

Yuck. I preferred getting my classes over with early, so I could have my nights free. “You do realize that the two of us will probably never have a class together.”

“I hadn’t thought about it actually, but that sucks.”

I lay back on my pillow, resting my arm behind my head. “Yeah, it sucks. Maybe I’ll take a late class in the fall.”

“That’d be good,” she replied. Her mood seemed a lot better, and there wasn’t any awkwardness between us. At least I didn’t think there was. Her voice sounded normal, happy even.

“What are you doing tonight?” I asked.

“Oh, uh, I’m staying in.”

“You want some company?”

“Maybe, um, can I text you later and let you know.”

“Yeah, sounds good,” I replied. “Glad you had a good first day Lee. I’ll talk to you after while.”

“Okay, bye, Josh.”

Garrett walked out of the bathroom with his towel wrapped around his head instead of his bare ass.

“Dude, come on.” I held my hand out at arms length to block the heinous view.

“What?” He shrugged. He stood in front of the floor length mirror, and all I could do was shake my head at him. There was not another person on the planet like him.

Thank goodness. One was enough.

“You’re never going to believe what I just heard,” Garrett said.

I was looking at the wall on the other side of the room by this point. I couldn’t risk seeing him bend over with his hairy ass in the air. Once you’ve seen it, trust me, you don’t want to see it again.

“Let’s hear it,” I replied.

“Tex sent me a message saying that he was hanging out with Paislee tonight. He said they are having dinner at her dorm.”

“My Paislee?”

“Yep,” he countered.

“She didn’t tell me that on the phone.”

“Maybe she didn’t want you to know.” He started whistling some crazy tune.

I cleared my throat, not really sure what to say. She had a date. So what? My jaw tensed as I ground my teeth together.

Just hours earlier she was upset because I broke her heart, and she’s already accepted a date.

Seemed a bit messed up if you asked me.

“Hey G,” I said.

“Yeah.”

“Is he a good guy?” I truly wanted to know.

He didn’t answer, so I peeked in his direction. He nodded. “He’s a really good guy.”

“Good.”

Good.

Because I would break his fucking neck if he messed with that girl.
