Chapter 24

I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t look at her. I couldn’t.

Everything about her was damning. Soul destroying. Ruining. I couldn’t.

Seeing her kiss him. Seeing him touch her. Seeing anything to do with her. I couldn’t.

Why had he brought her into our lives? She was the source of all the conflict between the four of us and I hated it. I hated every moment of every second she’d been here.

And what I hated the most, was how she made me feel something after I’d closed myself off from the world. I wasn’t meant to feel, not after… everything. The one person who understood. Who knew why I couldn’t deal with people, well, he was the reason she was here.

The worst part of all of this was I didn’t even hate her. I couldn’t bring myself to say her name because that would make it real. All these feelings would be real and I couldn’t allow them to be.

I kept trying to tell myself I didn’t want anything from her, but that was a lie. A lie I told myself to make this easier. No. I wanted everything from her. Her. Ash. Ashleigh. Ashleigh Vittoria Russo. I wanted her more than I wanted to be free of my burdens. My pain. Because Ash, beautiful Ash who was the brightest fucking star in the sky, she’d be the balm to it all. She’d make it okay. Make me okay. But I couldn’t have her. Because she was his.

His. His. His.

The word fucking echoed around my skull. Tormenting me. Torturing me in ways I’d not been subject to for years.

I’d never betray my best friend. Never. Not least because Quinn was the only person in this whole entire world who saw me. Who cared. Who saved me. I had Eric and Xav, but Quinn knew more than them. He knew everything. Every. Single. Thing. He was my safety net. He was the one who listened. He held me when everything was dark. He gave me a reason to live again. And Quinn had given me my revenge.

I looked up from my plate when I heard her laugh. Her head was thrown back and the beautiful rich sound tinkled out of those perfect lips. Her blue eyes were bright with amusement and it could’ve only been Xav who made her laugh like that because it was what he did. The knife lodged in my chest twisted, making it harder for me to keep breathing.

I couldn’t stop looking at her. Taking in each and every one of her features. From the small freckle above her right eyebrow to the way her messy blonde hair cascaded down her back. Hair I wanted to run my fingers through. Hair I wanted bunched in my fist whilst she cried underneath me, begging me to stop all the while her body pleaded with me to continue. I almost groaned at the vivid images plaguing my every waking moment. It wasn’t often I even craved human contact but with her, I’d risk everything to feel her skin against mine.
