I ripped the door open and found Makenna standing there with bloodshot eyes. I took in the redness of her cheeks and the way she was shifting her weight from foot to foot. Her eyes whipped up to mine and I could see conflict and unresolved emotions brewing behind them.

My eyes darted around and looked for any sign that there was trouble.

My worst fear was that The Black Saddles had been tailing me. My greatest fear was that they somehow figured Makenna and Ana were caught up in our lives and that they had done something. Threatened them or approached them or harmed them in some way. And if something like that had happened, I would never forgive myself.

I would also take out every last one of them.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Nothing,” Makenna said breathlessly.

“You’ve been crying,” I said. “Something’s wrong.”

“It’s not what you think. I promise.”

“Makenna. Did something happen to Ana?”

“What? No. She’s… she’s in bed. The house is locked up. I just-”

She looked up into my eyes and something in them changed. Switched on a dime and left my cock throbbing against my jeans. My eyes peered over to the house and saw only her car in the driveway. Silence was on our street corner and there were no moving shadows lurking in the distance.

“You just what?” I asked as my gaze dropped back to hers.

Her chest was rising and falling with the deep breaths she was taking in. I could feel the cool metal of the gun pressing against my back. Her eyes locked onto my chiseled form and I watched her hand raise up. Her fingertips hovered over the lines in my skin and I could feel her pulsing heat beating against my body.

I reached behind me and slid the gun from my pants before setting it back down onto the table beside me.

“What was that for?” Makenna asked.

“I looked through the peephole and thought something was wrong.”

“So, you thought you were going to shoot someone over it?” she asked.

“You live alone and have a daughter. I was preparing myself for anything.”

Her eyes shot back up to mine as her hand planted against my chest. I bit back a shiver that reached down my spine and grabbed onto my balls. Makenna took a step up into my home, pushing me back into my own foyer as she closed the front door behind her.

Then her hand slid up to my neck and cupped the back of it.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

Her eyes danced between mine as my arm slipped around her waist.

“I want to finish what we started,” she said with a whisper.

She pulled my face to hers and our lips collided. But it would be the only move she was making. My arm tightened around her as my free hand reached up to cup the back of her head. I fisted her hair, forcing her face off to the side as she moaned into my mouth. Our tongues battled for dominance as her soft curves cloaked the crevices of my body.
