Fans often traveled with the Packers to out-of-town games, and other towns noticed the enthusiasm of the team supporters. When the team won the championship in 1929, the streets of Green Bay were filled with waving admirers. They whistled, yelled, and honked car horns. Traffic was at a standstill. The players were given a hero’s welcome. Each received a new watch and a check for $220—a lot of money at the time. This kind of reception showed just how much Green Bay loved Curly Lambeau and his Packers.
