Chapter Nineteen
Tex stepped into the café, and the hair on the back of his neck rose. Colin was there, his movements stiff. The man seemed scared. Their gazes met and held for a second. Tex swore Colin was begging for help. Tex ordered a small coffee, thinking he wouldn’t get to finish it. The energy in the place was all off. Something weird was going on, and he couldn’t help but notice how Colin and the man he was sitting with didn’t speak much, and when they did, their motions showed anger.
Before his coffee came, Colin stood up and headed to the restroom. Suz stepped inside and paused for a beat. Her gaze stayed on a woman off to the side, who was turned the other way. Then Tex realized who that woman was. Shit, Cara Burke was right here with Colin who looked scared shitless.
Tex pulled out his phone and casually sent a text to the group, telling them that Cara and Colin were inside the coffee shop with Colin looking afraid. There were no replies. He knew Tanner and Ryan would get into place.
One of them would circle around to the back of the building. Though Tex had only taken a few sips of his coffee, he tossed it in the trash as he headed over to the hall with the bathrooms. He caught a glimpse of Colin being led outside by some guy. Cara stepped out of the female’s bathroom and followed them.
No question in Tex’s mind, it was time to act. He typed in another text, telling the team he was headed out back. He opened the door quietly to see the man with Cara holding a gun on Colin. There was another man out there too. Then he looked closer at Cara and saw she had a gun. Anger flashed hot, but he held back. He needed to think before he reacted. If he burst in without running this through his mind, he could end up getting everyone shot.
Tex was about to push open the door when a rock flew out of nowhere and smashed into Cara’s hand. Then another rock flew and hit her head. Tanner was there, disabling one of the guys.
Cara’s gun dropped, clattering to the ground. Tex saw his opening. He moved fast, rushing forward. The other guy lifted his hand, and Tex lashed out with his foot, catching the man in the jaw, dropping him to the ground. That gave Cara time enough to lunge for her gun.
Colin moved too fast, though. He had the gun on Cara, his brows wrinkled in confusion. Then his gaze zeroed in on Tex. He saw the recognition dawning in Colin’s eyes.
“Are you working with her?” Colin yelled.
Tex lifted his hands and shook his head. “No. We’re not working with anyone.”
Colin glanced around. “What’s going on?”
“We need to get moving. The package is about to move,” Suz said as she moved closer.
“Package?” Colin asked. “You’re doing something about Walsh, right. Let me help.”
“Right now we have to dispose of these two.
