Chapter Thirteen

When the word “dead” comes out of his mouth my insides twist making me even more horrified about what he plans to do. The possibilities of everything he could be thinking crash through my mind and my body begins to panic once again.

“Why me?” I speak slowly, trying not to allow him the pleasure of knowing how scared I am. “I think you have the wrong person.” I need to know more about him. Every single thing he says or does will give me information and then maybe I can figure out who I’m dealing with.

“No. You’re the one.” My body is alert and on edge as he steps closer, pushing me as he walks us both a few steps to the left. “I’m gonna sit you on this table and look at these welts.” He lifts me onto the surface and even though I’m still blindfolded and barely covered, I start to calm down a bit. His touch is rough, but gentle as he inspects my aching arms and legs. “How long did they have you like this?”

They?

“I’m not sure.” He leaves me for just a few seconds, only taking a few steps before he returns, and extremely loud music begins to ricochet through the room.

“We are being watched through a camera. I’m going to be close to you, so we can hear each other. I’m also going to touch you and I want you to fight me off just slightly, but not so much that I can’t get the information I need to get you out of here. Cooperate and I will try to save your life, Cambri.”

We are being watched?
