Chapter Twenty-Six
Emily
“How’s your plan going?” Julian asked as we lay side by side in the hotel room bed. He was back in town after taking a contract for work and had booked a night with me.
I shifted to my side and brought the sheet up under my armpit, resting my head in my hand. “Slow. Security is tight. But I did have an idea I wanted to run by you.”
“Oh?” He reached forward and ran his hand from my shoulder down my arm and back again, his gaze following the path his hand made.
My reaction was to pull away. I didn’t. Since spending time with Vito, I’d gotten pretty good at accepting unwanted attention.
“As soon as I arrive, I’m patted down by one of his men. And while I’m not allowed free rein to explore the place, I can use the bathroom. What if I somehow snuck a gun in and went straight to the bathroom when I got there so that I could stash it? Then, when he lets his guard down...”
A part of me was ashamed to admit how happy the thought of pulling the trigger made me. But after getting to know Vito better, I couldn’t muster any remorse at the thought of killing the man.
What had I become?
“How do you plan on getting a gun in there?” Julian’s face was serious, and it was clear he was in strategizing mode. Given his occupation, that was exactly what I was hoping for.
“Maybe you could help me with that?” I sucked my bottom lip into my mouth.
“I suppose I could think of something.” He leaned in and nuzzled his face into the crook of my neck.
Julian had become more and more affectionate and demanding of sex from me whenever I saw him now—demanding multiple rounds and forcing me to stay longer with him. It was like he couldn’t get enough. He was never sated.
“I could do it for you, you know. Take him out from a distance, and no one would be the wiser,” he said against my neck. “It might take some time to find an opportunity, but it will come. It always does.”
I pushed a hand into his hair. “I appreciate the offer, but this is something I need to do for myself.”
He already had more than enough blood on his hands, and I wouldn’t drag anyone else into my revenge plot. Vito was mine and mine alone to deal with.
Julian lifted his head and looked at me intently. “There are some weapons capable of being broken down into small pieces. Some are made of plastic. Easier to smuggle them that way. Do they use the wand when you arrive?”
I shook my head. “No. Just the pat-down. With what we’re wearing, there isn’t much room to hide a gun.”
He clenched his jaw for a moment before responding. “That makes it easier then. You may have to sneak in a piece at a time and stash them somewhere until you have all the pieces. Think you can
