THE COLISEUM FLOOR buzzed with the sounds of mingling and gossip. Even from the front of the room, Dominic could feel the eyes boring into the back of his head. It appeared he remained the center of attention and talk of the town, so to speak.

More than one fearful young woman had asked him to sign the latest copy of Forbes for them. As if they actually read that magazine. Not likely.

A glance to his left revealed Morgan Silverman making his way into the crowd, smiling and apologizing like it was his fault everyone kept hitting him. Classic Morgan, making others seem better so they would more freely spill information.

Several other members of Morgan’s team scattered themselves throughout the hall, all for Dominic’s protection.

Death threats became a normal part of his life by the time he was eleven. This level of security was nothing new.

To Dominic's right, Merrick Crowe stood guard at the judge’s station. Most especially, he stood nearby for Dominic. No more than a step and a lunge away, Merrick would run interference if anyone tried to make good on their threats.

With metal detectors as good as airport security at all the entrances, the chances of that happening were minimal.

Two very different forms of security, meant to create an all-encompassing shield. So long as Dominic wasn’t behind the stage, neither of the men would be far away. Behind stage, well... they knew to give him a wide berth.

With his men and women in place, Dominic turned his attention to other things.

Like the line of fraternity brothers stationed in chairs beside him. Each had done his part, made a small speech for the build-up to this day, and stuck beside Dominic even when he wasn’t fully on board.

To be honest, Dominic still wasn’t fully on board, but here they were and the show must go on.

Ellis slid a stack of manila folders onto the table before Dominic. “Top fifteen. You ruled out some when you tried wooing them with your charm beforehand. Don’t worry, only the best in there.”

“If I need a dossier, I’ll ask,” Dominic slid the folders back, his foul mood showing when it came to Ellis.

Ellis spent more time flirting with the women than doing anything constructive. Dominic should have left Hettie in charge of the whole operation.

“Wow. Touchy today, aren’t we?” Ellis clucked his tongue and sank into his chair, right next to Dominic. “Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or what?”

“No, you just have that effect on me.” Dominic tapped his fingers nervously on the table. Better to get this over with as soon as possible.

Backstage, he could imagine the chaos reigning down on girl after girl. With their outlooks and petty attitudes, it was no wonder Dominic hadn’t found one worth looking into.

Ellis hadn’t included him in the decision for the top fifteen, but that could be his own fault. Dominic didn’t express much enthusiasm for that kind of thing, and he had to choose the top ten and top five tonight.
