Chapter Sixteen
Doc and H stepped out of the cab directly in front of the nightclub Shadows. The establishment sat on the corner of 7th Avenue and 15th Street and had a line going around the corner.
“Popular place,” H commented as they stepped into line behind a couple of twenty-something girls that were barely dressed.
“They’re close,” Doc stated the obvious. “Didn’t think anyone else would risk being early,” Doc shot his mate a disgruntled look. “Thought we were the only ones this stupid.”
H laughed before they stepped up to the door where a very fucking large black man sat on the stool checking IDs. His laughter died in his throat as he recognized the big assed panther shifter.
“Welcome to Shadows,” the man greeted them. “You’re expected,” he said and waved them through.
Neither Mad Dog had a chance to reply before the panther shifter reached out and grabbed Doc’s arm to stop him from passing.
“My husband, Nick, will be happy to see you,” the man smiled at Doc. “Thank you. I don’t think I had the chance to say that. Head toward the stairs. Your friends are in Alec’s office.”
Doc was caught off guard so words escaped him. All he could manage was a nod and he was grateful the large panther returned his nod before he let go of his arm.
Both Mad Dogs looked around the nightclub as they walked deeper into the establishment. It was aptly named since everything was shrouded in shadow. Their wolf vision allowed them to see through the darkness that humans would assume concealed activities they wouldn’t engage in normally lit spaces.
The sheer material that was hanging from the ceiling to create little pockets of privacy around small tables was admittedly cool. Cool or not, as interesting as the little tents were, they did not distract the Mad Dogs from moving further into the club. Further toward the back of the club where they sensed their pack mates.
If Doc and H hadn’t had enhanced wolf vision and been looking for an office door, they would have never seen the outline of the door frame that indicated a room at the base of the stairs. Both Mad Dogs stopped in front of the door and looked at one another.
They could sense their pack mates emotions, but had no way to actually communicate with them. The only way to talk to the pack was when they were in wolf form or their mate was in wolf form. And of course, that wasn’t the case now or even an option.
“Knock?” H asked his mate as they stood before the door.
Doc shrugged and he lifted his large fist and rapped it three times on the door. The door opened and both Mad Dogs were greeted by El. H barely waited for the door to close before he leapt at El and wrapped his arms tightly around the demo man.
“Damn, I’ve missed you guys!” H squeezed El and El reluctantly hugged his smaller pack mate back.
“More like you miss their cocks,”
