Chapter 13

Mitch

James was in the lobby when I got there, waiting with his usual cheesy grin on his face. Which fell as soon as I stepped out, alone. I pulled the comm out of my pocket and put it back in my ear. I had no doubt Levi was going to stay online until we were all under the same roof, locked up tight on the compound.

“Where’s Charity?” James asked.

“She is staying until the cops come. She had a point. They will look for the maid that disappeared at the same time.” We started walking out the door together, the guard carefully studying the wall behind him. “She works and lives under the name Summer Christensen. Which is why we hit a dead end with everything.”

“She’s smart. She knows what she’s doing.” Rick said from the other side.

“So. Mitch.” James started as we climbed in the backseats. Harry started the car and began driving. “Are we getting two more new roommates? I assume of course that she won’t leave the boy behind. I wouldn’t mind taking him under my wing. The kid’s got a computer for a brain.”

I huffed. “Maybe one day, but not right now. She actually told me she didn’t want anything right now. She promised herself that her focus was revenge. She did ask that we get someone to sit on her apartment though. Noah is alone and Brad may not have been the first person Greg told about the bugs. He isn’t working alone.”

“No. Miranda is with him. We underestimated her. The kid sent us access to all their recordings. He told us which ones we would want to start with. We’ve been listening. Miranda is elbows deep in this. And what’s more.” Levi gave the deep sigh I was all too familiar with. I could even imagine his hand rubbing his face. “They took a contract out on the school. She’s aiming for all of us. I think we can all agree that tonight’s events are going to spur her on sooner.”

Both sides of the comm were quiet for a time. We heard Callie coming from Levi’s end. “You need to get Noah out of there. Charity too. They are no longer in the shadows.”

I cursed. “Harry?”

“Detouring, got it.”

James handed me his phone. On it was the website we used on campus, the one that contained all the information on our students and their parents. Of course, this was the district one, we had our own system that contained other, more personal, and harder to get information.

I saved the number to my phone and then sent a message with an address.

Me: Come straight here. Noah is spending the night. Delete the address as soon as you memorize.

Her response came through almost immediately.

Tinkerbell: Don’t need the address. But thank you. *winky face*

I rolled my eyes. Of course, she didn’t.

“She already knows where we live.” I announced to them all.

Harry’s foot hit the brakes.

“Say that again?” Tim asked slowly, like he wasn’t sure he heard me right.

“I sent her the address, told her to delete it.
