CHAPTER 10

I woke up with sweat dripping from my face. I was in the same room I started in. Grant was sitting on a chair beside my bed, taking some notes.

"Am I done?" I asked.

"Yes. You did remarkably well," Grant said, not looking up from his notes.

"What do you mean?"

He stared at me. Wonder filled his eyes. "You beat the record by two days."

"Record? Two days? What?" I questioned.

"The record for figuring out the knowledge you presented usually take five days. You only took three, just like your friends." His mouth was talking to me, but his mind was taken away.

"I thought you said I only had two days of testing, and those were only a couple hours."

"I lied. The tests are very long. Each test takes multiple hours."

Questions filled my head, but I doubted he could answer them by the look on his face, for questions consumed him too.

After a couple minutes of silence, I finally said, "I want to see the camp."

Immediately Grant reminded me, "You just found out that you beat the record by two days. Nobody has ever been able to do that fifty years, and you tell me you want to see your friends?"

"They are not my friends," I replied with my jaw clenching.

"I still just don't understand," he said.

"I think they can help me figure out why I was able to do that."

Grant marched me down stairs, halls, and rooms until we entered a prison. In one giant cell room, the rest of the camp that followed me was in there, and then there was another cell just for Jason, John, Wesley, and Alice. I walked into the cell room with Grant closing the door behind me.

"Just whistle when you want to come out." Then he went to go dig his nose in his notes again.

"You work for them now?" John asked.

"No, definitely not," I almost shouted.

"Then why are you here?" he asked.

"Would you let me explain? They put me in tests with the record for presenting certain skills in five days. I presented them in two, just like you guys. That's never happened in fifty years, and I think you can help me figure out why."

"Enlighten me," John casually said.

I glared at him. "I need a blood test from all of you. I think there must be some genetic thing or something that made us this way."

"Okay, so what's your brilliant plan for getting the supplies?" Jason asked with sarcasm glaring through his words.

"I'm just going to ask Grant for them."

"Who?" they all responded.

"He is my experimenter, like my scientist."

As soon as I asked, Grant brought the blood sample equipment and then left us in the cell again. After taking a sample of everyone's blood, I put the results in the computer. Then I saw something horrific, something that would change my life forever.

"Wesley is your brother?" John spoke out loud. His words were like stones on my heart, letting me sink to the floor.

"How?" I wondered aloud.

"Well, when one has the same parents with another person .
