Chapter Ten

Ramon kept his arm tucked tight around Felicia's waist and enjoyed her curves as he hailed another taxi. "Emilio's," he ordered. He wanted to show this special woman his special places in Buenos Aires.

He kept her close beside him while the cab buzzed down the wide Avenida 9 de Julio then wove its way through small streets to stop beside a walled area.

"That's the cemetery. We'll head there after lunch." Ramon took her hand again, unable to stop touching her, and led the way out of the sunshine into an open restaurant shaded by fabric overhead.

"Ola, Ramon," said a woman in a lacy white dress.

"Hello, Maria, good to see you again." He gestured across the small enclosure away from the occupied tables near the entrance. He wanted as much privacy as he could get, wanted to keep the mood intimate until they could get really intimate.

She seated them side by side at a table for two that looked out over a small garden of multi-colored flowers. Their chairs were so close together that Ramon could feel the heat from Felicia's thigh next to his. Even in the tiny area, it felt as if they were alone. He nodded at Maria, and she handed them each a roll of paper tied in ribbon that had faceted beads on the ends.

"How is your mama?" he asked.

Maria, whose face had been businesslike, beamed. "She is doing well, enjoying her grandchildren, finally admitting it was time for her to retire. I'll tell her you asked after her. It will make her day."

Ramon unrolled his menu and glanced at it. "Ah, I see you have the mushroom fettuccini. I hoped you would. I wanted Felicia to taste it. She's a pasta chef."

Maria smiled at Felicia. "Was it handed down to you like it was to my brother, Marco? He does the cooking here since Mama retired."

Felicia shook her head. "I'm not really a chef. I just teach cooking."

"Sounds like a chef to me," Ramon said.

Maria nodded. "You'll have to tell Marco your opinion. He loves to talk food." She held up a bottle of red wine. Ramon nodded, and she poured them each a glass.

Ramon clinked his glass against Felicia's. "Here's to good food and fun." He bent and gave her a brief kiss. He looked deep into her eyes and saw she understood what he had in mind for fun.

For an instant Felicia held his gaze then she looked away. She sipped and chewed the wine. "This should be good with the pasta, smoky but a bit lighter than cabernet."

"Glad you like it."

A salad of fresh lettuces came first. Then a stocky, dark-haired man with an apron around his waist brought out deep dishes heaped with pasta.

"Hey, Marco. Looks good." Ramon stood and hugged the chef.

"Yeah." But Marco's eyes were on Felicia.

"Felicia Graham, Marco Martinez." Ramon sat down. "And she's off limits to you, Marco. Your wife would throw a fit we could hear all the way to Panama if she knew you were making eyes at another woman.
