“Should we address the elephant in the room?” I asked wearing his Columbia hoodie and a pair of his boxers as he cooked scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast for me. I had been insatiable and slept over last night. I even wanted more this morning, but doctor’s orders say if you want to keep having incredible sex you need food.

“Which elephant might that be?”

“The mixing of business and pleasure,” I softly spoke as he poured the eggs out onto a plate, placed the bacon and toast, and brought it to me. I sipped at the orange juice he had given me as he came with a plate of his own and we sat at his eight-seater mahogany kitchen table.

“Do you want to address it?” he asked and I nodded.

“I want to know that whatever we are doing won’t affect what we are building for the kids.”

“Okay,” he said as he stood up and walked into his office and then returned with a prescription pad.

“This is a legal binding agreement that says:

Whatever happens, happens and we won’t keep each other from the kids or harm the partnership we are building.”

He signed it and handed it to me with the pen. I took it and signed it with a smirk on my face.

“Glad that’s done,” he joked.

“Is it though?” I asked and his smile fell. He reached across the table and placed his hand on mine.

“What’s going on?” His words were a mixture of concern and compassion.

“I don’t know what we are doing here.”

“Do you enjoy talking to me on the phone every night?” he asked and I smiled. He had called every night just before I went to bed and he talked to me till I fell asleep.

“Yes,” I replied.

“Do you enjoy spending time with me?”

“Yes.” I saw us going in a pattern. “I meant are we dating because I’m not sure that is what I want but if we aren’t dating and continue sleeping together without protection I need to know I am the only hive your bee is buzzing around—” I rambled on trying to say what I needed to say with some intelligence, but it came out broken and I wasn’t sure I was making sense.

“Devan,” he spoke softly as he pushed my still dampened hair off my shoulder. “We don’t have labels. We are getting to know each other because I like you and you like me.”

“And your bee?” I asked.

“I’m not sure if I should be offended that you think of my cock as a stinger,” he joked as a light smile broke through my unease. “I promise I am not pollinating any other flowers,” he said with a smile.

“So, this is just two people enjoying spending time with each other and no expectations for more.”

“Ask me again in a couple months after you fall madly in love with me,” he continued his witticism.

“Ask me again in a couple months when I am sick of you,” I countered as reality slapped me in the face. This had turned into the one thing I hadn’t wanted.
