Alka and Krish went house hunting together. The company had lined up five or six houses in different areas, which they had leased for their employees. Krish was eligible for a one bedroom apartment with a study.

The apartments were all in pleasant residential areas, and Alka found that finding a house together was a very intimate thing to do. It was like they were a ‘proper couple’. The person who was showing them the houses addressed Alka like she was his wife.

‘Ma’am will have nice space for gardening on these balconies. All homes have balconies here,’ he said as she showed them a home on the ninth floor, which overlooked a park.

Later they laughed about it, and Krish teased Alka, ‘Does madam approve? Does madam like the gardening space?’

Alka loved it. So did Krish, and he ended up choosing that one. It was a semi-furnished apartment, which meant that it came with wardrobes and a few other essential fittings.

‘You’ll have to help me buy a bed and a sofa,’ Krish smiled.

‘I will,’ Alka smiled back and slipped her hands into his.
