I was starting to think I could trust Quinn after she played nice during the interview we broadcast and with the preparations we’ve been working on for our next major targets during the yacht party.

Seeing her upset two weeks ago triggered my instinctive need to care for anyone who can’t protect themselves. Then when we went to the marina to set up for the yacht, it was almost like she could fit in with us. It tempted me to want things I’ve never entertained for myself—things like what my boys have with Rowan and Isla. I’ve never pinned myself down like that, yet something about her still demands all my attention in a way no other girl has achieved.

Having Quinn’s brilliant mind around the Nest 2.0 has eased my workload and given me the chance to breathe without feeling like I’m barely keeping my head above water because I refuse to fail my brothers when they’re all relying on me. But when I came back up to the office after one of my minions delivered the rest of the parts I need to program the drone show that’s the pièce de résistance to my plan for Mortimer’s seafaring holiday party, the joke on the tip of my tongue died. She was snooping in my redacted files from five years ago.

Still spying. Still fucking lying.

I won’t let her play me. Not again.

I can’t allow my attraction to her cloud my judgment when it already almost cost me everything. She’s a game I want to win. Nothing more. I won’t give her a free pass to slide through my defenses.

Narrowing my eyes, I lick her divine taste from my fingers once I pull them free, shoving down the flare of enjoyment I get from her hazy gaze locked on my tongue curling around my knuckles. I turn my back on her and tuck myself away.

This is on you, a nasty little corner of my mind whispers. Fuck you, demons.

The overly self-critical side of my brain has a point. I left her alone without locking down that information. Stupid, trusting idiot.

What is it about this girl that makes me slip up? The answer is obvious. I pinch the bridge of my nose and try not to think of how good her pussy feels choking my dick when she comes.

Turning my attention to the computer when the web crawler script pings to alert me it’s reached completion, my mouth sets in a grim line. I locate the scraps of information I have from the shitstorm five years ago, the only cobbled together proof of what happened other than the disappointing memory of that night, and store them in the encrypted database where Quinn won’t be able to access them without my supervision. Shoving back from the desk, I crack my neck side to side.

“Stay here,” I order flatly.

She scoffs, yanking her dress back into place. “Where are you going?”

“I need to concentrate. Can’t do that with you around right now. I’ll either fuck you again or kill you, and I’ve got important shit to do.
