Chapter Thirteen

“Can’t say I am surprised to hear that, my dear King. You … you …” She choked, jumped up and walked quickly down the steps of the porch into the garden.

Gabriel sat looking after her for a while before he sighed and followed her slowly. He found her sitting on the edge of the fountain in the center of the garden. Twirling her fingers through the water.

“Do you always run away rather than confront a problem, Red?”

She stiffened but refused to answer and kept her head turned away from him.

“Sienna!”

“I don’t know what you are talking about. There is no problem to confront. You just proved that you are nothing but a … rake … a libertine! It is very clear that one woman would never be enough for you. I am very happy you found your Jessica again. So now you can leave me alone!”

“You are nothing if not predictable, Red.”

“Is that what kept you so busy that it took you three days before you bothered to call me?”

His heart missed a beat at her surly question. He touched her shoulder, but she kept her face averted and he sighed.

“I kissed her only once and it barely started before I ended it. There was a reason why I kissed her, Red.”

“Oh, I’m sure there is and it would be very interesting indeed.”

“Sienna, will you look at me?” She shook her head and he growled in frustration.

“She is a very beautiful woman and …”

“I know what she bloody looks like! She is one of thé Socialites in the media. It is hard to miss her!”

“I wanted to see if she could draw the same reaction from me that you do with only a kiss.”

She jumped up and swung to him. His breath hissed in his throat at the fury that flashed from her violet eyes.

“Don’t feed me such bullshit, Gabriel! A man like you kisses a woman for one reason and one reason only! To convey his feelings and his intent!”

She was trembling she was so angry and she stabbed him in his chest with her finger.

“I am nobody’s fool, Gabriel Costa! Not even yours! Even if it is only for the time I have to pay this … ridiculous debt you drenched up that I owe you … you will stay away from other women! Do you hear me! I will not share you with anyone!”

Whatever Gabriel expected her to say, that was the furthest thing from his mind and he could not curb the delighted smile that played around his lips. It inflamed her even further.

“Wipe that smile from your face! This is no joke and I am warning you, Gabriel. If I find you near another woman, even just kissing or touching her … my debt is paid in full! I will owe you no more!”

He rocked back on his heels and looked at her through half lidded eyes.

“You do know what that means, don’t you, Red?”

“What?”

“That you cannot push me away. No matter where and when I want to kiss you or touch you.
