“WELL.” ROSE SLID UNDER the covers. Her feet and her back ached. “Looks as though Whistle Creek has another perfectly matched couple on its hands. I’m telling you, Ty.” She looked over to her husband’s side of the bed when she didn’t hear a reply. The love of her life was completely passed out. Alcohol and dancing could totally exhaust a person.

She grabbed a pen and her journal from the nightstand drawer. Looking once more to make sure her husband was truly asleep, Rose quickly entered a few lines for the night’s entry. “Another successful joining of two lost souls. Kenneth Love and Libby Dodd are officially engaged.” Rose smiled and patted the leather front of the book when she laid it on the nightstand.

Before she laid her head down for the night, Rose remembered a sad Charlotte standing in the corner of the barn. There was a new mission forming in Rose’s head as she slowly surrendered to the comfort of her bed. Yes, as long as love was in the air, her urge to fan that love their direction wouldn’t fade.

Libby didn’t think she needed love in her life, Rose remembered. But look at her now. She couldn’t recall seeing her once-rival that happy. It was true that everyone considered the new bride-to-be a royal pain in the butt several years ago. But everyone didn’t know of Libby’s pain and fear of her ex-husband quite as much as Rose did. Libby learned to confide in her friends. Bottling up such emotions eventually imploded if not let out a little along the way.

Shane Sullivan seemed to be a decent young man, Rose recalled. They’d only said a few words between them but she could tell the other men took to him. Tyler especially. Maybe she could talk her husband, and even her brother, into showing Mr. Sullivan around town. It was too cold to have a barbecue, at least by the pool. Maybe a small bonfire would be good to let everyone get more acquainted.

“You over there plottin’ again?” Tyler snuggled up close to Rose. “I can see those wheels turning.”

She smiled and gave him a kiss. “Oh, just thinking about tonight.”

“You’ve got that look again, cupid.” He moved a little closer. “Wanna shoot me with your arrow?”

Rose giggled. “I already did. But if you need another shot, I’ll be glad to.” She tossed the pen she’d been biting on toward the nightstand and scooted under the covers.

It wasn’t that Rose wanted to play matchmaker all the time. She wanted everyone to know the kind of love she’d found with Tyler. Not everyone gets a second chance. Not everyone is brave enough to take that second chance. Luckily for her, she overcame her fear. Now she was blessed with a beautiful family that she’d give up her own life for.

Rose would eventually figure out the details of the plan swirling around her head. But for now, she wanted to enjoy what was left of this Thanksgiving night with her cupid’s catch.
