I wake early. I wonder what time Siôn wakes up. Is he down at the badger set, or up watching the peewits, with the fresh wind blowing the sleep away? I am so tempted to walk up to the den and wait for him, but Dad offers me a lift to school. I don’t like him coming to the school with his copper’s uniform on, but it is still early so I don’t think many people will see.

‘Hope it all goes OK today,’ he says, as he pulls to a halt by the railings. I roll my eyes and he pats my arm. ‘You’ll be fine.’
