It had been less than twenty-four hours since the incident at the warehouse and I still wasn’t entirely sure what to think.

I had asked to be alone when we got home and the others had given me space, I heard Connor check on me in the middle of the night as if he was afraid I would have left quietly never to return.

I knew who they were, but seeing it in action was a different thing and knowing I had been the one to sign that mans death warrant, there was a little guilt riding my conscience.

I glanced at my phone, waiting for the message from my friend Serena to say she was on her way. Declan was watching me from the corner of his eye at the computer and I could see Connor sneaking glances at me as we stared at the tv.

“Stop it. I am not going to break. I told you I am fine.” Alfie stepped into the room a minute later and sat across from me.

“You didn’t grow up in this life, little flame. You just witnessed an interrogation, death and you were held at gun point. Let us be a little bit concerned.” I let out a sigh at the same time Benjamin walked into the room.

“Let’s go. I want to get the paperwork finalized on the building before we head over to Alonsos and get to the bottom of this bullshit.” He paused, leaning down to kiss me on the forehead.

Since yesterday he had become closed off, distant and I was confused by his change in attitude towards me. There was something he wasn’t telling me and I was itching to pull it out of him but right now, I needed space and to talk to a friend.

“Are you sure you are up to going out?” Connor asked and I sighed dramatically. “Please stop. I need this. I haven’t seen her in almost a year and I need to be around another woman for a change. I will be fine.” He hesitated before he followed Benjamin and Alfie out, leaving Declan and me alone in the apartment.

“Come here.” He said from his usual spot at the table and I narrowed my eyes at him and the command before I hoped up and walked towards him. I was wearing a simple black dress that fell to my knees and clung to my body with a pair of silver heels. It had a sweetheart neckline and thick straps that kept most of my chest tucked nice and neatly away.

His eyes roamed the length of my body until I stood in front of him, his hands instantly gripped my hips and pulled me down onto his lap before he kissed me.

I resisted at first, annoyed that he was being so bossy but as his hands gently ran up the length of my back, I relaxed into the kiss, letting him in.

He pulled away to stare into my eyes and I found myself falling into that stare. It was as if the ground had opened up beneath me and he was consuming the very air I breathed.
