The Chief Justice’s reaction is unknown, but the Supreme Court judges did not leave the issue there.

Justice David Jackson, an extremely well-respected barrister appointed to the Supreme Court in 2012 who had been viewed as a possible Chief Justice, wrote to the judges of the Supreme Court on 18 February proposing a meeting the next day to consider four proposed resolutions. When he sent the email, he had spoken to all of the judges with the exception of the Chief Justice, and Justices Wilson, North and Thomas, but he indicated he was trying to meet or talk with them as soon as possible. He explained the need for urgency:

In my view, something must be done immediately about the current situation in respect of proposed resolutions 3 and 4, and resolutions 1 and 2 are of such general importance that they should not be put off …
