Chapter 7

“Rough night?” he asked when she walked into the kitchen, jeans and sweatshirt on, her hair barely up in a ponytail and dark circles under her beautiful eyes. Well, her hair was more up than down. She hadn’t even bothered to pull on socks, too intent on getting a cup of coffee.

When she had it, she glared up at him. And then, just because she’d been thinking about it all night, she punched his arm. Not hard. She didn’t have the energy for a hard jab. But she got her point cross. At least, she told herself that when she walked back to her bedroom for socks and shoes.

Maybe he’d missed her point since she only heard his chuckle when she walked away.

As he drove down to her house, she huddled over in her seat, glaring out the windshield. She couldn’t stand the tension so she turned to look at him, her lowered eyebrows increasing her glower. “Did you do that on purpose last night?” she asked him, too tired to be subtle or worry if she might be revealing her feelings for him.

He glanced at her then shifted his eyes back to the road. “Did I do what on purpose last night?”

“Kiss me then leave me all frustrated and…” she flitted her fingers in the air. “Desperate.” She was disgusted with herself for falling under his seductive trap and not sure how to get out of it.

He laughed out loud. “Oh, so that’s what has you so grumpy this morning, eh?” he asked.

She shifted in her seat. “I’m not grumpy. I’m never grumpy.”

“What would you call this?” he asked, trying very hard not to chuckle again at her grumpy face. She was adorable when she was fuming.

“I’m angry!” she snapped and jumped out of the truck when he pulled up outside her tiny house. When she was facing him again, she put her hands on her hips and tried to glare at him, but he was too tall and the effect was lacking. “I’m angry because you kissed me and then left me. No! Actually, you pushed me away. I wasn’t that tired last night!”

Tucker was swift in response. With strong hands, he swung her around so that her back was pressed against the truck. “Are you telling me that you’re sexually frustrated, Chloe?”

She thought about it for a moment, not sure if that was what was wrong or if… “Yes!” she snapped, trying to push against his chest, but she’d have better luck pushing against a boulder! It was softer than his chest. “You kissed me! You teased me! You are such a jerk!”

Tucker was stumped. He wanted to lift her back into his truck and drive right back to his house so that he could prove he wasn’t a tease. But they really did have a lot of work to accomplish today. A compromise then, something to ease the ache that had hardened his body to a painful level. “So how about if we knock out
