Chapter 14
The bump when we landed woke me up abruptly. I looked around and saw the others just waking up too. Apparently none of us was disturbed by the bright sun outside to not catch some shut-eye.
Except from me and Sam, though, everyone else had settled for the uncomfortable seats of the chopper. I frowned as I watched their stiff bodies now. Not jealous at all!
I turned to Samantha on my right. Her blue eyes were already open and were watching me.
“Hey!” I whispered smiling “How are you feeling?”
“Hungry!” she smirked.
“Oh…so it wasn’t the ‘copter making that scary sound!”
She pushed my shoulder and then got up laughing. I watched her closely but other than still being a little paler than I’d like her to be, she seemed ok. She raised her eyebrow at me, her eyes twinkling when she caught me eyeing her.
“You’re going to stay there all day?”
I jumped up, glad I could move again on my own, and took my bag.
“Seriously now, are you ok?”
“I’m fine.”
It was my turn now to raise an eyebrow, not quite sure yet if she meant it.
“Really!” she said softly.
Then her whole demeanor changed to an all business as she turned to Amy. “Go back to my place. I’ll meet with our guardians first and I’ll come as soon as I finish.” Then to Anthony “You’re welcome to stay at my house during your time here. Amy will show you your room.”
“Thank you.”
She nodded and then jumped out of the chopper. I felt her determination and slight anger through our link. But I didn’t have a clue as to why she was angry now. I tilted my head confused. I wandered if our bond would give me a clearer picture in the future as it got stronger.
I shrugged and then went to follow the others to Sam’s house. Tim set out to prepare a big lunch but I decided on a quick bite and then went upstairs to clean myself immediately.
Just as I was finishing dressing up I rather sensed Evelyn and Jason entering my room than actually heard them. I smiled very proud of them. They’d finally learned to move soundlessly.
I turned just in time to see Jason trying to tackle me. I jumped to the side chuckling as he fell on the wardrobe with the force he was coming on me. Evelyn was leaning at the door shaking her head but she was laughing too.
“Damn! One day I’ll manage to take you by surprise!” he groaned. “I thought I really had you this time!”
“Maybe next time.” I ruffled his hair to tease him. I wouldn’t tell him that I actually didn’t hear them but sensed them through my magic. I liked to see him trying.
“Hey!” he slapped my hands away taking a couple steps back. “Don’t mess with my hair!”
“Adrienne we’ve got to talk.” Evelyn’s words sobered me.
I nodded as she closed the door behind her. I went to sit at the end of the bed and they followed my suit. I took a deep breath and watched them both.
