Chapter 15

Knocking on someone's door wasn’t illegal—even if we found out their address in a less than ethical way—but just showing on their porch still felt like breaking rules.

“Are you sure this is it?” Kaden asked for the third time.

Niall didn’t bother responding.

Footsteps sounded, then the door swung open, revealing a man I guessed to be in his thirties, with short black hair and dark eyes.

He examined the three of us. “May help you?”

“I hope so,” I admitted.

A light of recognition went on in his eyes. “You’re the Alpha’s granddaughter, right?”

“Yeah.” I swallowed before continuing. “I'm sure you've heard about––”

“Your bond,” he finished for me. A smile started at the edges of his mouth. “I had a feeling we'd be seeing you eventually. How did you hear about us?”

I glanced at Niall before dropping my head. I pushed for us to meet them, especially after my talk with Serene, but I didn’t want to make them mad.

“I found you guys,” he answered. “I work in the main office and found your information. Sorry, that's probably a breach of some sort of privacy.”

“We’re all pack.” The man brushed off our concern and waved us inside and to the living room. “I'm Dustin, by the way. This is Joey and Emily, my mates. Guys, this is Saige Stewart.”

Another man and a woman stood from the couch.

Emily stepped forward and offered her hand to me. “It's nice to finally meet you. I wanted to introduce myself earlier, but there always seemed to be a group around you.”

The warm welcome caught me off guard but eased my anxiety. They had expected us to show up at some point.

“Why don't you guys take a seat?” She gestured to the other couch. “Sorry, you'll have to remind me of your names.”

Kaden and Niall introduced themselves again.

“What can we do for you?” she asked pleasantly.

“We know that . . .” I tried to start and then I shook my head. “Actually, we don't know very much.”

Niall spoke up. “We've gathered some from reading and research, but we didn't have any other bonds to talk to at the Academy. We had an instructor who tried to help us, but we're in a unique situation.”

Joey laughed. “I can't imagine what it's like having three other guys around. One is more than enough for me.”

Niall snorted, but it came out sounding more like a scoff.

Dustin chuckled. “All right, tell us where you are? What you've done so far? You went through the bonding ceremony?”

“And we think we’ve completed the bond. We're able to speak telepathically as long as we're touching,” Kaden said.

Emily nodded, waiting.

“And that's basically it,” I finished.

They didn’t react, which made me wonder why Serene had been so alarmed. Emily clapped her hands.

“Well, it looks like we can be of some help to you, then.”

“Just like that?” I asked. “You guys are willing to help us?”

“Of course,” Joey confirmed. “It's kind of our duty. Not only because you guys are pack, but because you're another large bond.”

“What do you want in return?” Kaden asked slowly.
