Chapter 14

Christian/ Ford

CHRISTIAN

The smell of bacon woke me. I yawned, turned on my side, expecting to bump into Ford. When my hand touched the empty space, I opened my eyes.

Ford had just woke up, I thought. His scent still lingered on the pillow. I flopped on my back and stared at the ceiling.

A week had passed since we finally broke the barriers between us and had sex. Seven wonderful days of just Ford and me getting to know each other better.

I spent so much time over at his cabin that Jules kept teasing me, asking me when I would finally move in with Ford.

Although the two of us living together was a tempting prospect, it was a step that Ford and I might not be ready to take yet.

After all, we still had some obstacles to overcome. Ford constantly checked his sources every day, but no reports of GH had emerged.

Ford surmised the fae abomination was still licking his wounds somewhere and was doing his best to lie low.

What were the chances GH had forgotten about us? Unlikely, I thought. I recalled GH’s hungry and cruel stare and shivered.

Why was I thinking about that creature today?

I banished the monster from my thoughts. As Ford mentioned before, we would deal with the problem when it finally arrived at our doorstep.

I finally got out of bed and did some stretches. The wonderful smells coming from the kitchen finally lured me out of the bedroom.

I found Ford working the stove, shirtless and in deep concentration. His laptop lay open on the kitchen counter.

For a few seconds, I admired the gorgeous sight of my boyfriend. Boyfriend. I was confident enough to call Ford that.

It was such a human term. I was becoming more shifter-like than I cared to admit.

My inner raven knew Ford was destined to be more than my boyfriend. He was my fated mate, but I didn’t press the topic yet.

Part of me was still terrified of finding Ford gone one day, off to hunt GH without me.

Despite the laid-back schedule we developed, Ford still devoted a large amount of time to finding GH.

“Good morning,” Ford said, finally noticing me.

He flashed me a smile, which immediately chased all the storm clouds in my mind.

“Why haven’t you said anything?” he asked when I said nothing.

“I was taking my time admiring what’s mine.” I flushed, unable to believe those words just came out of my mouth.

Ford only chuckled softly to himself. He finished frying up his last batch of bacon.

Then he approached me, wrapping his powerful arms around my body. Shutting my eyes, I burrowed my face into his chest, inhaling his scent.

He smelled like pine trees mixed in with bacon and a hint of the particular cigarette brand he liked.

Ford slid his fingers through my messy hair, taming it a little.

“Did you sleep well?” Ford asked. “Still having nightmares?”

I shook my head. Some nights, I dreamed of that dilapidated church and our first confrontation with GH.

In this version, GH killed Ford before turning to me.
