Shock rippled through me so strongly I was unable to move as I found Max kissing me again. On the one hand, I definitely wasn’t going to complain. Despite my shock, the jolt that shot through me was still as pleasant and tantalizing as last night. On the other, that was definitely not on the list of expected outcomes from having told him the truth, yelled at him, and then punched him.

For a brief moment, I felt the urge to check in with him, to make sure this was okay. The last thing I wanted was for something like this to set him off again, especially considering he’d already told me there were more worries in his head than just professional ethics.

I had no idea if he sensed what was going on in my head, but his reaction couldn’t have been more appropriate to shut me up as he grabbed me by my waist and drew me close. Even with the cabin's warmth, I could feel the heat radiating from him in waves. If there were any doubts in his mind, he was keeping them well hidden, and I had to trust that he, as a full-grown adult, was capable of making his own decisions.

I found myself pushed back by his sudden surge forward, and all I could do was give a soft noise of approval. I didn’t need to be told what came next when the back of my thighs hit the desk. Before I could do more than start to lift myself, the kiss broke just long enough for Max’s hands to slide down my legs, grip the back of them, and heft me onto the desk.

I gave a little laugh of exhilaration at the sheer ease with which he moved me before shutting up and wrapping my arms around his neck to pull him in again. I was the right size that, generally speaking, I wasn't accustomed to being manhandled with such ease. My last couple of exes could manage it, but neither of them had picked me up like I weighed next to nothing, but neither of them had spent years wrangling stubborn animals that outweighed most people.

With me properly positioned on the desk and wrapped around his neck, his hands came down to grip my thighs from the top. A shiver ran through me when I felt his fingers dig through the thin fabric of my sleep pants, massaging the muscles. I found myself entranced by the feel of his fingers as they slid ever so slowly up my leg.

It only occurred to me what was happening when his hand movements stilled as he reached the incredibly obvious tent. I didn’t know the extent of his experience with other men, but from the slow curiosity and the sudden stop, I was going to bet not very much.

Even the kiss had stopped, though his lips still rested against mine. I fought for a moment, trying to think of how I could help him. So far, he had responded only a little to words, enough that he’d tried to kiss me last night.
