BARKLEY LOOKED over at Duncan, trapped as he was in amongst the llamas. They were honking at himâalthough none had spit so farâand sniffing. Barkley tried not to laugh, but he couldnât help it. This was Loriâs usual initiation for the⦠uninitiated. After sheâd put Barkley through it during his first visit to the sanctuary, sheâd explained that she recognized the âkeepersâ right away from their response to the llamas. If they didnât run screaming, Lori was pretty sure they werenât just here for the cute and cuddly babies.
âGot a new female coming over later,â Lori announced as she came to stand beside Barkley. âOwner said she lost her cria and her mate all within a two-month period.â Barkley frowned and tilted his head to the side. âSaid sheâs not eating or sleeping and has lost too much weight. They donât wanna give her up, but they donât want to watch her die, either.â Lori pulled off her gloves and shoved them down the front of her overalls. âCalled me to see if I might be able to bring her back around.â
âPoor little love,â Barkley sighed.
âHowâs he doinâ?â Lori wiped the back of her hand across her forehead and looked over at Duncan. âHe complained yet?â
âNo,â Barkley said with a laugh. âI may get an earful later on, but heâs passing with flying colors so far.â
âSeems like a hard worker,â Lori acknowledged and slapped Barkley on the back. She began to walk away and then turned. âNot too hard on the eyes, either.â She winked and Barkley wondered just how hot his skin would get.
Barkley had never discussed his sexuality with Lori, but then heâd never hidden it from anyone either. So all Lori would have to do is look him upâwhich Barkley was sure sheâd done after getting a check for more than three hundred thousand dollarsâto discover that he was a homosexual. And if Lori did know, and if she had a problem with it, sheâd never said one word in front of Barkley. Of course, considering what sheâd just observed about Duncan, Barkley was willing to bet she wouldnât have a problem with people who loved animals loving each other.
Barkley looked over at Duncan again and smiled, deciding to put him out of his misery. Heâd passed the test with flying colors. Duncan was now among the initiated.
âHey, you!â Barkley called out as he passed through the gate to the llama pen.
âWhat?â Duncan stood up, took his shirt out of his back pocket, and wiped his forehead. âAm I doing it wrong?â
Barkley approached and raised an eyebrow. âYou donât do anything wrong.â
Duncanâs jaw dropped momentarily, and then he was laughing out loud. âThrowing yourself at me in front of the llamas? Do you have no shame?â
âIf I did,â Barkley said as he removed his own shirt and pressed himself against Duncanâs sweaty torso. âI wouldnât be doing this.â Barkley shoved his hands inside of Duncanâs back pockets and squeezed the hard globes of his ass while he brought their lips together, his tongue invading Duncanâs mouth almost immediately.
