“I love this place so much.” I couldn’t hide my excitement as we walked through Times Square, hand in hand. I didn’t have a worry in the world, and I hadn’t felt this good in years. I finally knew what it was like to be at peace. With myself, with my life, everything. It truly was the best feeling in the world.

And with Gage next to me, I was on cloud nine.

“It’s different, that’s for sure.” Gage looked around before bringing my hand up to his lips and giving it a gentle peck. It was hard to believe someone who looked so hard and dangerous could be so loving and affectionate.

I literally swooned at his actions.

“Have you always lived in the city?” I realized there was so much I didn’t know about my sexy bartender.

“Nah, about five years.” His answer was tense and I felt his body stiffen at my question. I wasn’t sure I wanted to push.

“Where did you live before then?” I had an unwavering need to know everything about this man.

“Louisiana,” he finally stated after a few seconds of silence. I got the feeling he didn’t have good memories there and it wasn’t a story he was ready to tell. Not yet anyway.

“Really? Who knew we were so close to each other, and yet we met on the other side of the country?”

He gave my hand a squeeze, and as if pulling my thoughts straight out of my mind and rolling them off his tongue, he said, “Meant to be I guess.”

“I think you might be right.” I snuggled into his side as he wrapped his strong arms around me. I stopped in my tracks when we reached the best pizza place I had ever had. “Here it is.”

I looked up at Gage who was staring at me intently.

“What?” I tried to read his expression.

He pushed me gently against the brick building, cupping my face with his strong hands. “You’re just so fucking perfect.” His hot breath lingered against my face before he impatiently covered my mouth with his. My lips parted for him as his tongue grazed mine. My knees went weak and I grabbed his waist to hold myself up.

“Fuck.” My voice was raspy and almost inaudible. He literally took my breath away.

“Let’s get my girl fed.” He winked as he pulled me away from the wall and opened the restaurant door. On wobbly legs, I tried to keep in step with him.

This man literally made me weak in the knees.

My God. No one had ever affected me this way.

No one else ever would.
