Chapter 15

A few hours later, they ate cold eggs and drank cold coffee, both of them too physically and emotionally wiped to go back to the kitchen and warm the food. Neither of them wanted to get out of bed.

They sat next to each other, leaning up against the headboard of the bed. The bed Dorian had carried her to, placing her on all fours and pounding into her until the sounds they emitted were hardly recognizable as human.

“Ray, I am sorry—”

She reached over and touched his lips, stopping the words. “There is absolutely nothing to apologize for. In case you missed it, I wanted all of that just as much as you did.”

He entwined his fingers with hers and kissed her fingertips.

God, he looked so much better than he had before. More relaxed, not at all like he was about to jump out of his own skin. His eyes were clearer than she’d seen them before. He was more at rest. More at peace.

At least physically.

“Are you sure I didn’t hurt you? I was pretty damn near out of control.”

Now she brought his fingers up to her lips. “I was right there with you. I know slow and gentle tends to be our default setting, and I have no problem with that. But I’ve got to admit, I sort of liked frantic and out of control.”

“That was new to me.”

“Did it work as well as sparring with the guys?”

“Better. So much better.”

“I’m surprised you haven’t tried sex before.” As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she wanted to bite off her own tongue. Was she really suggesting he have sex with someone else? Ray didn’t trust herself not to shoot another woman outright with her crossbow if she had to witness that. “I mean, your doctor seemed to suggest that physical touch along with a physical outlet would be most helpful to you.”

She should really stop talking. Like right damn now.

“Yeah, Doc Diaz and I discussed different physical outlets, but sex really wasn’t an option.”

“Why? I’m sure there are plenty of women around Oak Creek who wouldn’t mind helping you burn some energy.” For fuck’s sake, Ray. Stop. Talking.

“Yeah, but none of them were you. And if it wasn’t you, then, honestly, I wasn’t interested. I’d rather fight it out with one of the boys.”

It made her feel better that he wasn’t running around town with all the women. “Dorian . . .”

He ran a hand over his eyes. “I know we didn’t use protection today. Hell, that was the last thing on my mind. But I want you to know that I’m clean. I had every possible type of test done to me after my capture.”

She smirked. “You know that would’ve only told you about any STDs up until then, right? That was six years ago.”

Dorian flushed. This big, giant man who could probably throw a small car if he needed to, actually flushed. “Yeah. Well, I haven’t had sex since then.”

Ray was trying to wrap her head around this conversation.
