~Dane~

My heart stalled in my chest as my legs sprinted to Bella’s room. However when I rounded her doorway, I discovered Bella in Eleanor’s arms and they were staring at a tissue on the floor. “Is everything okay in here?”

Emily slammed into my back, as I had stopped short right inside Bella’s room, and released an “Ooof.”

“I had to take care of a pretty big spider.” Eleanor explained.

I walked over to the two of them and Bella reached for me so I pulled her into my arms.

“It was a huge spider coming out of my toys. But ‘Lenore got it.” Bella sniffled.

“Well I’m glad she was able to protect you while I was talking with Emily. Do you want to see if the dogs are out yet?”

She nodded. Then she glanced at Eleanor. “Nice meeting you. I want you to come play with me again.” Grabbing my face with her hands, she kissed my cheek. “Will you carry me to the hallway?”

“I’ll take you to the door and Emily can watch you in the back yard until I’m done talking with Eleanor and then I’ll come out on the porch.” I kissed her forehead before taking her to the back of the house. Hopefully she got over her spider scare before bedtime tonight.

Once she was outside, I gave Eleanor a brief tour of the rest of the house and filled her in on some things about Bella’s usual schedule. After she assured me she would be fine learning about Bella and that she would only be there for a few hours, I walked her and Emily to the door. I thanked them both again for stepping in to help us out before the two of them headed out to Emily’s car.

Then I hurried to the back door and out onto the porch to keep an eye on Bella as she played with the dogs. When Shadow and Bailey went inside, Bella climbed around on her swing set for a bit before the two of us headed inside.

“What would you like for lunch?” We stood in her bathroom washing our hands.

“I can help you make grilled cheese.” She dried her hands.

“That sounds like a delicious idea.”

After the two of us toasted up our sandwiches and I heated us some soup, we sat at the bar. This time I remembered to cut up her food.

“Triangles? Cool.” She took a bite and smiled at me around her mouthful.

“I didn’t think you needed bite sized like you did with breakfast so I thought little triangles would be good.”

She nodded as she took another bite. She didn’t seem to be as chatty today. I hoped it was because she was tired or maybe right now hungry and not because deep down she was nervous about someone new watching her. But she had seemed comfortable with Eleanor.

“What do you want to do after I clean up lunch?”

“Show you how to paint?” Her eyes pleaded with mine.

“I would love that.” When we were done with lunch, the two of us headed to the art room and I got her situated with her cup of water for her brushes.
