Chapter Nineteen

I wake in the morning to find Erica is crawling up my body while licking and kissing my skin, her mouth traveling up my belly. She slurps at my flesh and pants softly, her hot breaths blustering over my chest and saliva dripping onto my skin. Then she chuffs once and wags her leg.

That doesn't feel like her leg, though. It's too small and moves too quickly. Besides, I haven't known Erica to drool on me.

I crack my lids open.

Casey lies sprawled between my thighs, on top of the covers, with his front paws and chin resting on my belly. When he sees my eyes are open, he wags his tail again.

Scratching behind his ears, I whisper, "Good morning, Casey. Let's try not to disturb Erica, all right?"

His ears prick up.

I decide to assume that means he agrees with me about not waking Erica. "Good boy."

The dog turns his head so he can lick my arm.

And I start muttering nonsense to him the way I always do because he seems to enjoy it. Casey pants and chuffs, and I swear he's smiling at me.

A throat-clearing makes us both glance at Erica.

"Am I interrupting?" she asks.

"You're awake." I aim a playful smile at her. "Thought you'd sleep all day."

"What time is it?"

"After ten."

She looks at the bedside clock. Her face goes blank for a moment.

Casey leaps up and lunges toward Erica to slop a kiss on her cheek. Spluttering, she pushes him away. The pup bounds off the bed, rocking it wildly.

Once the aftershocks settle down, I roll onto my side to face Erica and steal a quick, soft kiss. "Good morning, lass."

"Morning."

"Have a good sleep?" I run a fingertip along the sheet's edge, where it just covers her breasts.

"Mm." She flips onto her stomach. The sheet slips off her breasts but still covers her erse. When she props her torso up with both elbows, those mouthwatering tits dangle beneath her. "Haven't slept that soundly in years."

I skate my fingertips up her spine. "And all without sex."

She peeks at me over her shoulder. "You made me a promise last night."

"And I intend to keep it." I place an open-mouth kiss on her nape. "But first, I have another gift for you, if it won't offend my gràidh."

"No, of course not." She spreads her fingers over her pillow and stares down at them. "I'm sorry about last night. I love the dress."

My fingers freeze halfway up her back. She loves the dress, and I love that she told me so. But I called her darling again in Gaelic. Didn't mean to. The word came out of my mouth before I realized what I was about to say.

Erica throws me a sideways glance. "I'm just not used to men buying me expensive presents."

"Ah, but you deserve it." I sit up, twisting around to reach down to the floor and retrieve the plastic sack I'd hidden just under the bed. Last night after she fell asleep, I'd sneaked out of Erica's house and over to Gil's place to get the gift I'd bought for her at the museum.
