Jen and Jim sat quietly and enjoyed the company of their new friends.

“It seems like they really know each other!” Jen remarked.

“They sure do Jen! They form TROOPS of 50 or more baboons. They groom each other, they play, they eat, and they travel together,” Jim noted.

“ALWAYS SAFER IN NUMBERS!” Jen nodded.

“For sure!” Jim said. “The male baboons will face predators like leopards and cheetahs by forming a line. The baboons will STRUT in a threatening way, by baring their teeth and screaming. It works, the predators get scared and will RUN away from the baboons.”

“That would definitely do it for me!” Jen smiled.

Jim continued, “At night, baboons climb trees and sleep there. Baboons do not see well at night. They have to be very careful of the leopard, who sees well at night and can climb too. A baboon’s jaw is long and it allows the baboon to store and carry food in its cheeks. Baboons are one of the largest monkeys in the world. Unlike other monkeys, baboon tails do not curl and wrap around the branches.”

Jen and Jim played with the baboons for a while. They said goodbye to each of them.
