Chapter Eleven

Lany

It was surreal sitting there with Sal at my side, holding his hand. This certainly wasn't where I thought I'd be when I woke up this morning. I still wasn't sure where I was going to be when I went to bed tonight.

Honestly, that kind of scared me.

This all did.

I turned my attention to Burke. "You have any contacts in immigration?"

I needed to find my head of security.

"A few, why?"

"When they kicked us out of the house, they arrested Brant. They said his green card had been revoked and they were sending him back to Israel. Vinnie's been trying to find him and get him released, but so far he hasn't had any luck. I was hoping you could find him and get him released so he could come home."

Burke's eyebrows lifted. "Brant was arrested?"

I nodded.

"Did they give a reason why his green card was revoked?"

"Not to me."

Burke's frown grew into a grimace. "I'll make some calls."

I smiled. "Thank you."

I was worried about Brant. I wanted him to come home, not that he had much of a place to come home to, but still. He belonged with us.

"So, let me see if I have this right," Burke said. "Someone is making videos of Lany having sex, prompting Sal to file for divorce and uproot your entire family, someone took your home, and someone took Brant?" Burke asked. "Did I miss anything?"

"You forgot that someone seized everything Vinnie owns, including the trust fund he set up for us."

Burke's eyes narrowed. "Who in the hell is after Vinnie?"

I sat up straighter. "You think someone is after Vinnie?"

"It looks that way to me."

I frowned at Burke. "How?"

Burke started flicking up his fingers. "They caused you and Sal to separate, tearing your family apart. Anyone who knows Vinnie knows how much he loves you guys. You're practically family."

I shot Sal a quick look. Sal gave the barest shake of his head. Okay, Burke didn't know Vinnie was the biological father of our adopted twin girls. That was a secret that very few people knew about. It was too dangerous for the girls.

"They took his house, his money, his friend's house. They took Brant, who we all know used to work for Vinnie. Add all that up and it seems to me that someone is out to get Vincenzo Castellano."

Damn.

Burke was right.

Maybe.

"You really think some idiot would make videos of me and some other guy fucking and then—"

"Guys," Sal said. "The videos show you with more than one guy."

I swallowed tightly when bile rose up in my throat. "I'm a slut?"

Sal pointed to the screen. "He is a slut. You are not."

I dropped my head into my hands, overwhelmed by everything I was learning. "How can this be about Vinnie, though? This feels so personal."

It felt as if someone was gunning for me and Sal.

"So," I continued as I raised my head, "someone made a video of me with a bunch of different guys for what reason?"

"Like I said, to tear you and Sal apart.
