Chapter 8
Amaya awoke hours later to the strains of an electric keyboard and bass playing. It was a melodic ballad, and it made her think of floating on a boat at sunset. Sitting up in bed, she was enamored of Lachlin’s fingers as they flew over the keys in the heartrending melody. Was it any wonder they could play her body with such finesse?
Jax had parked himself on one of the chairs. His black and white Fender bass guitar was resting on his thigh as he strummed the strings, his fingers sliding up and down the neck in a graceful dance.
“Wait, what if you used the key change and added a six, four, five chord progression like this?” Jax demonstrated. Lachlin nodded in time to the beat.
“I like it. Again, from the top. I have a few embellishments I’m going to add to see how they sound.”
Amaya rose from the bed, entranced by the music they were making. She grabbed one of the guys’ shirts and slid it on as she tiptoed into the living room. She didn’t want to disturb their creative process. Blank pages of sheet music lay on the coffee table.
They played through the eight measures again. Then Lachlin added a beat with his keyboard.
When they had finished, grinning at each other, Amaya clapped and their gazes shot to her. The looks in their eyes made her blood heat.
“I liked it. What’s it called?” she asked.
“Sleeping beauty, awake at last. Sleep well, pet?” Jax gave her a cocky grin, like he knew he had screwed her brains out and was pleased as punch about it.
“Like a baby. And you?” she said honestly, because she had. Sex with the two of them had been the absolute best medicine. Her body had unwound from its heightened state of anxiety and she’d slept more deeply and peacefully than she had in weeks.
“If I’d realized having you beneath me on a regular basis would make the insomnia go away, I wouldn’t have let you leave the manor in Scotland, pet.” The intensity of Jax’s heated gaze made her stomach tumble and her nipples harden.
Needing to distract herself from the startling, sudden aching need pounding through her body, she turned to her other Dom before she ended up begging them to fuck her. “And you, Lachlin?” she asked.
Lachlin’s eyes roamed over her form. She was in what she surmised was his shirt by the slightly woodsy smell. “Never better. I like seeing you in my shirts, love. It makes me want to strip you out of them,” he teased.
Her cheeks heated and she was sure her blush showed. She cleared her throat. “What are you working on?”
“Jax here had an idea for a song and, well, here we are.”
“Like the words, and everything?”
“No,” Jax said. “I woke up with this awesome riff running through my mind and had to write it down. Lachlin heard me moving about, strumming the bass, and joined me.”
“Don’t mind him. When it comes to writing new songs, he’s a little mental, that one.
