Chapter Ten

Reed finished drying himself, brushed his teeth and slipped into a clean pair of boxers. He climbed under the covers on the opposite side of the bed so he wouldn’t wake Emily. She’d left one of the bedside table lamps on, and it cast a warm glow over the room. He doubted he’d be able to grab any shut-eye for himself, but she needed her rest.

As he settled in for a night of nonsleep, she shifted and threw her leg over his. His pulse kicked up a notch or two. Heck, it raised more than he wanted to admit.

Yeah, he definitely wouldn’t be getting any sleep now. Not with her silky warm skin pressed to his. How could his thigh touching hers be so damn sexy?

She reached across his bare chest, only a thin piece of cotton stopping her firm breast from touching his bare skin. He groaned. It was going to be a long night.

He was aroused. She was fast asleep. Even if she was wide awake, it didn’t change the fact that she was badly injured.

That she’d taken off everything but a T-shirt and underwear brought his erection back to life with a vengeance.

His whole body stiffened. He didn’t want to move for fear he’d hurt her.

And then he felt her hands moving over his chest.

“You can’t break me,” she whispered, and her voice slid over him, warming him. Her hands moved across his chest, stopping at the dark patch of hair in the center.

He was afraid he’d do just that. Hurt her. So he wouldn’t force anything. Her mouth found his, and her tongue slid inside.

His hands moved, too, with gentle caresses as he smoothed his palm across the silken skin of her stomach.

She moaned as he cupped her breast. She carefully repositioned, a reminder they needed to take it slow, and his sex pressed to her stomach.

Last thing Reed needed to think about just now was her light purple panties. He already knew they were silk. With an image like that and her curled against him, things would end before they even started. She seemed to want this every bit as much as he did. Used to being in charge in bed, he’d have to remember to let her be in control.

Lying side by side, Reed slowly lifted her shirt as he bent down then slicked his tongue over her nipple. It hardened to a peak. The soft mewling sound she made stiffened his length. Much more of this and he’d be done right then and there. Her back arched then the sound she made next stopped him in his tracks.

“Are you okay?”

“Y-es.” The way she drew out the word told him she wasn’t convinced.

There was a point of no return when it came to foreplay, and a breast in his mouth had always been the line for him. They’d careened sideways and beyond as far as Reed was concerned, so stopping now would prove even more difficult. Except when it came to pain. No way could he feel good about having sex if it hurt his partner in any way.
