Chapter Nineteen

The band that had just walked off the little stage had really killed the excited buzz fogging up the pub. I felt bad for them. It was a younger group of three boys. But they’d really enjoyed their set, and that was what that mattered in my opinion.

Up next was Wolfe, and I was excited to hear him again. Would he musically fuck me or make me want to hug is sad soul? Either way, things had changed since the last time. And I could admit that I just wanted to hear his voice; I was hooked. As soon as Evan had announced that Wolfe would be up next, the whole pub had quieted as they waited eagerly like me for him to sing.

He walked up on stage with just his guitar and got the mic all set up in front of his stool. “This is something new, and for those of ye who’ve known a kiss like this.” He spoke into the mic and thankfully, everyone was watching him, not needing drinks because I was focused on him. This song was about a kiss?

“It’s called Chains, Chains.” He spoke clearly into the mic and started strumming notes. My curiosity was piqued as I recognized the notes from the day on the beach. He was playing the song he’d been writing in mystery notepad!

His rough voice hummed against the mic, and I felt my body sync with him. I waited for his eyes to open and he didn’t disappoint me. As soon as he started singing, his eyes flew to mine and held me. Singing to me.

Chains, chains on my body

On my neck, ankles, and wrist

Most days I am broken down

Can’t clench my hand or make a fist
