She told herself it was because she knew Leigh better now; they were being followed, after all. She needed to protect her asset. Wait, that was too harsh a word. Her charge—that was better. Perhaps friend would be more accurate. But the fact that women were hungrily staring at Leigh bothered her. She felt unsettled.

Leigh and Pat danced for a while as Ted and Conn watched, but when the music slowed, Ted grasped Conn’s arm and said, “I don’t know about you, but I’m going to dance with my man!”

Conn almost did a double-take, because evidently Ted had read her mind. She grinned at the realization that he probably didn’t appreciate the way men were appraising Pat. “Let’s go!”she said. They made their way to the couple and each tapped the shoulder of their date.

Leigh was surprised and delighted to see Conn approach her.

While she and Pat had been dancing, she’d noticed that Conn had not taken her eyes off her. Conn had leaned back in her chair, watching her as if she were the only woman on the dance ß oor.

Without much thought, she’d thrust her hips more suggestively, touched and teased Pat, dancing around him seductively. Then she realized she was dancing for Conn. Pat immediately matched her style, and Leigh wondered if Ted was watching.

When the music ended and the slow, sexy beat of a samba began, she watched Conn stride toward her, eyes never leaving her own. She held Leigh’s hands in hers, then slowly spread them apart and stepped between them to bring her close. Leigh stopped breathing when Conn’s hand settled on the small of her bare back.

Conn gazed deeply into Leigh’s eyes and said, “Only look at me and listen to the music. Nothing else exists, just you and me and the music.”

In that moment, Leigh knew she was right. Nothing else existed.

The lights dimmed as the borders between them slowly melted, and Leigh entered a world she knew only from her dreams. She glided effortlessly in Conn’s arms, nearly overwhelmed by the sensation. Peter

would have instructed her as to the proper movements for whatever the dance was. There was no need for words or instruction with Conn; they Þ t together perfectly.

Conn made her feel things she’d thought impossible. Conn seemed to be touching her everywhere, inside and out, stirring so many sensations at once, Leigh’s mind overloaded trying to identify them all.

Then she didn’t think at all. When Conn’s arms encircled her, Leigh felt safe. When Conn effortlessly spun her to the sensual drum beat, her front brushed across the delicate material covering Leigh’s breasts, making her nipples pucker and ache. Their hands together created a current that raced through her, making her breathless and wet.

Leigh felt at once dangerous and protected, breathless and serene.

And completely turned on. She was thankful that the lights were low because she knew her body was ß ushed with heat, from the top of her head to her toes. Every erogenous zone she knew of and a few she had no idea could produce pleasure were on full alert.
