Chapter Twenty-Six

Sarah

“I don’t think it’s letting up anytime soon,” Angelina said, staring out the window.

I looked up from the couch to find the room brightened significantly from when I’d lain down. I’d actually fallen asleep. Then again, the empty bottle of wine lying on its side on the floor helped with that.

I’d had half of it gone by the time Angelina showed up at my door. At first I’d thought it was Drey and almost didn’t answer. But then her little voice trickled through. I couldn’t believe she came to my place.

More so, I couldn’t believe Drey had called her.

“You know the first time I was close to Hunter…you know what I mean by close, right?”

“Um, yeah, I get it.” I sat up, holding my pulsing head.

“We weren’t even close to having sex or anything. Just kissing…I totally freaked.” She stayed at the window. “I love the snow. I’ve been here my whole life, and it’ll never get old. But anyway, I totally passed out on him.”

“As in…passed out?” I pulled my legs to my chest and rested my chin on the top of my knees. “Out cold?”

“Yep. Next thing I knew I woke up in my bed and ran to my bathroom and puked my brains out. His mom was there, though.”

“He left you?”

“Smartest thing he could have done. I would have freaked out even more if he’d been there. Both from embarrassment and…because he was a guy. Guys weren’t allowed in my space. No one was. His mom was awesome. Made me cinnamon rolls.”

“And everything was happy days and lovely. My case is a little different, girl.”

“Not really. I mean, yeah, you stabbed Drey, but still.”

“But still?” I stood up. “I stabbed him, Angelina. As in blood, knife, totally plunging it into his thigh!”

“You know he stayed outside your door, right? After you kicked him out. Down in the lobby on the stairwell leading to your place.”

“He did?” I stopped in front of the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water. “I…didn’t hear him.”

“Why’d you kick him out, anyway?”

I closed my eyes, my cheeks heating with embarrassment. “I couldn’t handle it. Couldn’t…we’d been…together and—”

“As in sex?”

“No. But…close as you put it.”

“I think you need to tell him. And I mean tell him everything.”

“No way.” I shut the door, then got some aspirin from the cabinet next to the fridge. “Never.”

“He’s already got an idea, and after that night terror. You talked, girl. Said the name Nicco.”

“Oh shit. He told you that?”

“Told Hunter. Hunter told me.” She turned, holding up her phone. “That jerk can’t touch you here. He’s gone. You’re safe.”

“Never safe.”

“What were you dreaming?”

“Doesn’t matter.”

“Yes it does. Tell me.”

“No.”

“Sarah.”

“Angelina. The shit I dream about would give you nightmares if I told you. So back off. I’m not telling you.”

“Then you need to tell someone.”

“And endanger them? No way!”

“It won’t. It’ll help you. You need help. I’ll go with you. Or, if you wanna call Jenna, she’s online. She can help.”

“The one who helped you and Lizzie?”

“She’s awesome. Seriously.
