You Don’t Belong

Tara

A couple of hours and a bunch of orgasms later, we get ready for the ride to Hathaway. My jeans, another snug black top, and low-cut boots make up my outfit. I tease my hair out a little bit and add a touch more makeup than usual, just to fit in with the biker chick vibe.

When we get to the meeting place — the Brimstone Friars’ clubhouse — a lot of the members are already there, with more arriving every minute. Everyone watches me ride in on Deke’s bike, and I get a lot of looks from both men and women.

Some of the men come over to talk about the club’s plan for the day, and the brothers introduce me to a lot of men with really interesting names: Growler, Snore, Blue, Hook, Slowpoke. They’re all polite, even friendly. I start to relax.

But then I see the woman who was at the bar last night. Her hostility is so obvious it’s almost cartoonish. She glares at me as if I am personally responsible for everything that’s ever gone wrong in her life.

Like I did last night, I ignore her. Part of me wants to get in her face, which is not my usual style, but there’s no point making enemies here. As wonderful as the weekend has been, my time with the Abbott brothers is nearly done.

I get another twinge of sadness as the club members all climb on their bikes. The thought of never seeing Deke and Jake again is more upsetting than it should be. It’s not as though our lives could ever fit together outside of the bedroom, so why am I letting it bother me?

Because they’re the best men you’ve ever met. The thought comes out of nowhere, shocking me with its force. Is it really true?

I can’t think about it right now. Deke signals me to climb on behind him, and soon we’re pulling onto the road. There must be close to a hundred bikes in our group, but we’re moving out in smaller clusters of five or six at a time.

The thrill of riding hasn’t faded now that it’s no longer a novelty. Per Deke’s instructions, I wore my shades, so I’m not squinting into the sun and I can enjoy the beautiful autumn day. Leaves are changing color as we make our way to a state highway that runs up toward the mountains, and I lay my head on Deke’s back and snuggle in close, feeling, for now, as though I belong.

It takes us about three hours of steady riding to reach Hathaway. It’s as cute and charming as I expected, with a picture-perfect Old Town neighborhood and tons of shops, restaurants, boutiques, and breweries. We make our way slowly through downtown, and all the townspeople and tourists on the sidewalks watch us go by.

There’s a large gravel parking lot on the edge of downtown, adjacent to a museum. We all pull off and park our bikes close together. It takes
