Chapter Six

Katie blinked open her eyes. For several seconds she had absolutely no clue where she was.

Then he shifted beside her and she remembered.

Raul.

She slowly rolled onto her side, moving carefully to avoid waking him. She glanced up. The shades were drawn. Was it daytime? Nighttime? How had she fallen asleep? Had Raul drugged her? How long had she been sleeping? Where was the clock?

Abby!

She jumped out of bed. Bathroom. She needed a bathroom. And she needed Raul to wake his ass up. “Raul! Raul!” she shook his shoulder.

He didn’t budge.

Effing men. They slept like the dead.

She glanced at the clock. She was so out of whack, having been up for twenty-five hours straight the first day of her so-called vacation, then conking out in the car on the way back to Alaska. And then crashing again after coming to the cabin. She hadn’t slept so much in years.

Was it five in the evening? Or five in the morning? Did it matter?

She needed to find Abby. Who cared what time it was?

A girl on a mission, and gratefully free of the distracting and bizarre horniness of earlier, she headed into the bathroom, took care of some personal business and freshened up a bit. No sense scaring everyone she came into contract with.

Once she was reasonably satisfied with the image in the mirror, she returned to the bedroom.

Raul was lying on his side, facing away from her. He was undressed, at least from the waist up. In his sleep, he’d pushed the covers down, giving her a clear view of his back and shoulders.

Clear lines defined his muscles and his skin was smooth, tan. A mini-wave of heat whooshed through her body.

Oh no.

Not wanting to risk getting turned on again and becoming distracted, she spun around and clamped her eyelids closed.

What the fuck was wrong with her?

“Raul!” she shouted, refusing to look at him. “Wake up!”

“Huh?” he said, sounding sleepy. His voice was a low, sexy rumble. “What’re you doing? Come back to bed.”

Suddenly there wasn’t anything else she’d rather do.

“I can’t,” she said, even though she was slowly backing toward the bed. A soft touch on her shoulder made her stop moving. Made her stop breathing too.

“I made some headway while you were sleeping,” he murmured into her right ear.

Goose bumps coated the right side of her body. “What’d you find out?” she asked, standing stock-still on the outside while quaking like a blade of grass in a hurricane on the inside.

A puff of warm breath caressed the side of her neck, just below her ear. “I have a lead on where they might be holding Abby and Tarik. But we need to wait until nightfall to go check it out.”

“It’s daytime?”

“Just after five in the evening. It’ll be getting dark around seven, which means we have almost two hours…to rest.” He reached around her back, placed his hands over her clothed breasts, and kneaded them.

“Are you sure…we shouldn’t…be doingggggg…” A sigh slipped between her lips. Her neck became spineless, allowing her head to fall back against Raul’s chest.
