GABE

My alarm sounded, and I jolted upright, confusion swimming through my mind. I slapped my phone, trying to get it to shut off. It was early, that much I knew, but the remaining details took a little longer to come back to me.

As I glanced around, eyes adjusting to the darkness, I began to realize where I was. There were the giant ovens and cooling racks, and all the glass that made up the bakery. Shit. The memories of the night before came rushing back to me, the way Daniel had felt under my touch, the way he’d felt around me as I screwed him.

When we’d finished, we were both exhausted, and he offered that he kept cots around just in case, so we’d grabbed them, falling asleep quickly despite it maybe being easier if we hadn’t. He was already up, I realized, glancing over to the other cot. It wasn’t the best place to sleep after banging, but I supposed it would do. I’d been in stranger positions.

Silently, I watched him do his little dance around the bakery. He cleaned the table of our fateful encounter, even though he’d also insisted on doing it the night before, even when I told him it could wait. But he was stubborn. He couldn’t be talked into something if he didn’t want to.

He was fully dressed again and hummed something quietly to himself. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched, even as he scrubbed the table clean of whatever he imagined was still there. He sighed and sprayed the table again, and then he was off, grabbing different ingredients from around him.

Daniel didn’t miss a beat. He wouldn’t allow himself to, even if something unexpected occurred. He’d also insisted on putting away the mini wedding cake he’d made properly, citing that it was too much effort to just let dry up.

But it was cute, just how uptight he could be. Unfortunately, the morning and the mail waited for no one. So I needed to get a move on. I sat up on the bed, raising my hands overhead in an exaggerated stretch.

“Oh, hey,” he said cheerfully, as though he hadn’t heard my alarm already go off.

“Hey, yourself,” I said, a faint smile rising to my lips. I stood, walking over to where he cracked eggs into a bowl. “What are you making?” I asked, wrapping my arms around his waist and hooking my chin on his shoulder.

Daniel hummed softly, “Blueberry muffins right now. Did you sleep okay?” He didn’t seem to mind the way I held him, still just adding his ingredients around me.

“Not too bad, no. I would have slept better if you were with me, though,” I said, unable to resist.

He laughed. “They’re too small for that.”

That didn’t mean he didn’t want to, that just meant he was trying to find the practical reason why he couldn’t. “Oh yeah? Fair enough, maybe next time.”

Daniel snorted. “How about I make you a coffee, hm?”

“Yes, please,” I agreed, releasing his thin waist from my grasp.
