why it’s unwise to over-analyse a man

Another key difference between men and women is how women are far more likely to over-analyse situations and conversations. Be careful that your opinions are never allowed to get turned into ‘facts’ about something or what someone meant. Men tend not to do this.

I have lost count of the number of times female friends have come to me over the years asking me to translate the meaning behind various things their husbands or boyfriends may have said or done that has upset, annoyed or irritated them. In many cases (but not all), once they’ve explained what happened (by answering a lot of precise questions from me), they realise that their man has actually been incredibly supportive of them. It can be so easy to misinterpret and then make inaccurate assumptions based on what you misunderstood.

Assuming he’s not a selfish, insensitive jerk (if he is – what are you doing with someone like that?), any time you are upset by a man’s behaviour, ask yourself this question, “What was his intention when he said or did that?” If you aren’t sure, don’t guess – ask him. If he was trying to do the right thing – his intention was good. His poor choice of words or phrases (from your point of view) should not negate his good intentions. Being upset or annoyed with him on those occasions would therefore be inappropriate unfair, and hurtful to you both.
