15) March 7, 1936 – Nazis Occupy Rhineland

After Hitler had spent several weeks at his mountain retreat above the town of Berchtesgaden in southeastern Bavaria, he returned to Berlin to on march 15th, 1935 to assemble members of the Army's General Staff and announce a major decision he had come to in Bavaria. Hitler wanted his Army Generals to openly disobey the military restrictions set by the Treaty of Versailles and re-arm. Shortly after, they set to work outlining the necessary laws and informing their subordinates. The following days, press releases for a reintroduction of military conscription were made and within a few months the new Army grew to 36 divisions, totaling 550,000 men.
