Create an Old-Fashioned Christmas Invitation

Invite your guests to brunch with homemade “parchment” papers, emulating the type of invitation a young Austen heroine such as Emma would have received for a Highbury Christmas Ball. Here’s how:

•Use your best calligraphy skills or print out desired text on a plain sheet of white paper.

•Place two black tea bags in a mug and steep with boiling water.

•Squeeze the excess liquid from the tea bags and begin to dab them over the paper (don’t forget to flip to the other side). Make sure some areas are uneven to give the paper an even older feel. (Tip: Turmeric and coffee grounds can be employed to help weather the page even more.)

•Use a candle to burn some of the edges so the paper will look all the more old-fashioned.

•Tie each invitation with a ribbon after rolling it into a scroll or fold it and then seal it with a stamp.
